DIR: JULIE DAVIS, 2001, USA, 35MM, 94 MIN.
OUTFEST and Lions Gate invite you to the red carpet premiere of Julie Davis' sparkling new romantic comedy. ALL OVER THE GUY takes that venerable movie formula - boy meets boy - and shakes it into an exciting new cocktail with more than a couple of twists. Produced from Dan Bucatinsky's screenplay (a finalist in the OUTFEST '99 Screenwriting Competition), the film offers a whimsical examination of the forces that influence boy to lose boy or win him back.
Eli (Dan Bucatinsky...yes, again!), and Tom (Richard Ruccolo) are like two peas from very different pods. Eli, raised by touchy-feely therapist parents, holds an idealized view of love. Tom's folks were emotionally distant, and his proclivity for hard drinking and promiscuous encounters contrasts with Eli's monogamous instinct. However, when the guys' straight best friends Jackie (Sasha Alexander) and Brett (Adam Goldberg) pair them off, opposites seem ready to attract...at least with the lights off. Seeing eye to eye, day to day, promises to take a little longer...
Taking on the serious issues that both shape and challenge true love, ALL OVER THE GUY also excels as a comedy of manners. Featuring snappy direction and dialogue worthy of Tracy and Hepburn, as well as appearances by such favorites as Christina Ricci, Lisa Kudrow, Andrea Martin and Doris Roberts (all in hilariously top form), the film gleefully reminds us that every romance and friendship is filled with big challenges and big rewards - especially the best ones.
