GAUDI AFTERNOON

DIR: SUSAN SEIDELMAN, 2000, SPAIN, 35MM, 93 MIN.
OUTFEST is proud to present this sparkling, wickedly funny comedy from director Susan Seidelman (DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN). Providing both a tour and a farce, the film is equally a tour-de-force from its celebrated director, jamming lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gender characters together in an intricate and hilarious plot, while evoking fresh and original performances from its all-star cast in the bargain. American translator Cassandra Reilly (Judy Davis) lives in (almost) blissful solitude working on assignment in Barcelona, her latest tem-porary home. Desirous of only peace and quiet, she gets the exact opposite when sultry femme fatale Frankie Stevens (Academy Award-winner Marcia Gay Harden) solicits her help as a translator and impromptu private eye in trailing her prodigal American husband. A reluc-tant detective, Cassandra finds the missing man shacked up with sultry new-age dilettante April (Juliette Lewis) and tough but elusive Bernadette (Lili Taylor). Cassandra quickly finds herself tangled in a sticky web of deception and disguise in which no one is quite what she (or he?) seems to be...not even Cassandra herself! Set against the swirl of Barcelona's archi-tectural madness, GAUDI AFTERNOON is a sexy and delicious romp through the winding back streets of human foibles and lunacy, brightened with generous amounts of adventure and romance.
