6/13/01: OUTFEST Announces Achievement Award Recipient
OUTFEST: The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival announced prolific producer Christine Vachon as the 2001 OUTFEST Achievement Award winner. Vachon is the New York based producer of some of the most honored, hit gay and lesbian films in history, including OUTFEST 2001 opening night film HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH; the Academy Award winning BOYS DON'T CRY; POISON; SWOON; GO FISH; STONEWALL; VELVET GOLDMINE and I SHOT ANDY WARHOL. Emmy Award-winner Camryn Manheim, who co-starred in Vachon’s film HAPPINESS, will present the award to Vachon at the Opening Night Gala to be held at the historic Orpheum Theater on Thursday, July 12, before the Los Angeles premiere screening of Fine Line Features’ HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH.
"Christine Vachon is the single most important producer in the history of lesbian and gay cinema," said Stephen Gutwillig, OUTFEST Executive Director. "It is a particular thrill to be honoring Christine at OUTFEST, a festival where so many filmmakers have looked to her as their inspiration and role model," he added.
Previous recipients of the OUTFEST Achievement Award are John Schlesinger (1997); Sir Ian McKellen (1998); Gus Van Sant (1999) and Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (2000).
